McFarlane Alien 3D Poster |
|
McFarlane's 3D Alien poster is now available at the Big Bad Toy Store
here:
Oftentimes, one might associate an egg innocuously with chickens or with breakfast, or maybe cake batter, or even Easter.
Hey, you know what they say, can¹t make an omelet without breaking a few eggs. I tell ya¹, I feel like I¹m walking on
eggshells around here. The last thing you want to do is kill the goose that lays the golden egg. Hey, don¹t put all your
eggs in one basket.
Now, try to picture that same innocuous egg set against a solid black background. The lower half of the egg is cracked with a
V-shaped rift, giving vent to vaporous green light above a shadowy half-glimpse of grid work. This imagery, prime for the
sculpted 3-D poster effect, is the simple imagery of Alien. This egg is the kind of gift that the Easter Bunny would only
reserve for those who really, really, really pissed him off the previous year. First comes the Facehugger, then comes the
Chestburster, then comes the Alien Warrior. Look beyond the cracked egg and the green glow and picture slime and ichor
spilling down along sleek plates of half-opaque black carapace, or cosmic snot dribbling from the long metallic teeth.
Picture a lot of screaming and a lot of running. Envision dark corridors and tangling rafters. One insignificant crew
trapped on a vessel in the outer bunghole of space with one of the most malignant monsters of all times.
Thanks to Alan for the scoop!

AvP Omnibus |
|
Mano from Aliens Online just sent us this
info about an upcoming AvP Omnibus:
Mankind's two ultimate nightmares come together in mortal combat, and whoever wins -- we lose.
On the remote planet Ryushi, a small ranching community becomes an unwilling
participant in a deadly ritual: extraterrestrial Predators have seeded Ryushi with Alien eggs
in order to create the ultimate hunt. But what the Predators don't know is that an Alien queen
egg is amongst those they've sent as potential hunting stock, and when the Predators arrive,
the hunters become the hunted amidst a monumental swarm of Aliens, and they may need
to turn to the very same humans they regard as little more than potential trophies to give
them any hope of survival.
Aliens vs. Predator Omnibus Volume One packs over 400 pages of excitement and terror
into one package, offering the original smash-hit AVP comics series that launched the
franchise, plus the exciting continuation of the storyline previously published as AVP: War.

Elder Predator @ BBTS |
|
Hot Toy's Predator Elder figure has just popped
up for sale at The Big Bad Toy Store. There's also a blister.jp variant of the Ancient
Predator
figure pictured
here!
Scarred and grizzled, the Elder Predator looks well-articulated and comes complete with a blood-red cloth cape. He¹s armed with his retractable spear, carrying the weapon in his right hand while he carries his cleft-style mask in his left. His armor is heavily weathered and darkly elaborate. Additional adornments include the stylized collar overlapping his breastplate, and the large skull framed above his belt. The Elder¹s eyes occupy shadowed alcoves, and his four-pronged maw is slightly agape.
It¹s just business as usual. The Predators are in transit, on their way to the underground ziggurat for a little training. Unfortunately, meddling humans have arrived, removing the Predators¹ plasma-cannons from the storage sarcophagus; in the same process, they¹ve also triggered the ziggurat¹s revolving puzzle-based inner labyrinth. The Alien Queen has been thawed from cryogenic freeze. Simultaneously, more humans have been sealed inside the upper sacrificial chamber, exposed to the Queen¹s eggs. Just around the time the three Predators, Celtic, Scar and poor Chopper, make it to the sarcophagus chamber, a whole swarm of Alien warriors have been officially cleared for battle. Eventually, the one worthy human, Lex, who allied with Scar Predator against the drones and the Queen herself, is gruffly received by the Elder and bestowed the latter¹s retractable spear as a reward for her unwavering courage.

PopBox Charity Auction |
|
Our friends at Action HQ and
PopBox Collectibles
just sent us the following notice regarding an upcoming charity auction:
Early next week, our sister company PopBoxCollectibles.com
will be sponsoring a charity auction for their newly release i, Robot 1:2 electronic motion sensing light up
bust w/die-cast parts. They will be auctioning 0001 of the limited 3000 units through the action-hq ebay user
account to raise money for Doctors Without Borders / Medecins Sans Frontieres.
You can find out more about them here.
It will be a 10 day auction on ebay and the winning amount will be
donated to the local Hong Kong chapter which have provided donations to
over 47 countries and chapters in need of humanitarian medical aid.
Besides the marketing benefits to us, the staff here is distressed about
the world's plights caused by war, avarice and just freak natural
disasters. It seems like you can't escape the news, at least here
overseas, where much of it is international.
We would like your help to promote this charity for the 10 days it is
up. We will provide you with a small write up about this which you can
use or link up to our site plus a small button graphic which you can use
in the posting or put on the left/right column on your site. If you can
do this, we will add you into our sponsor list.
Also an important note is that in the ebay auction, we cannot promote it
as a charity auction as we are not a charity or in the US. In the write
up on our site, we will have the charity version and on the auction, it
will be edited out. Once the auction is over, we will announce the
winning amount donated.
Similar to last time on the Marvel Saga (ltd edition of 20 unit) gold
Spiderman, we raise over USD400 for Red Cross for the Tsunami Relief.
We look to make this a normal thing for us to auction off special items
and donate them to international charities. Just our tiny part in
trying to make this a better place to live in. Stay tune for others soon.

AvP 2 Update |
|
Hicks of
Alien Experience just sent in this news:
I've just received word on two more casting additions for Alien vs. Predator 2, this time it is Ty Olsson as Nathan, and David Paetkau as Dale, Nathan's son. The casting style we've seen so far continues, with relative unknowns rounding out the remaining townsfolk. Of course, don't take unknown to mean untalented, as both these actors have been putting in their dues in an attempt to make the big time. That work seems to have paid off.
Olsson has been working in a variety of small roles for film and television since 1998, including projects like The X-Files, Andromeda, Battlestar Galactica, The Chronicles of Riddick, Supernatural, and is currently also filming Case 39, another Vancouver based shoot, filming at Bridge Studios, just up the street from AVP 2 which is based at the Vancouver Film Studios.
Paetkau has a similar resume with projects like Disturbing Behavior, Smallville, Taken, Final Destination 2, and a reoccuring role as Beck MacKaye on Whistler.
Olsson and Paetkau are from Ottawa and Vancouver, Canada respectively.
It's time to get stoked, folks, I hear whispers of a trailer coming soon.
Also, received confirmation that both Ian Whyte and Tom Woodruff will be back behind the masks as lead Predator and Alien respectively:
There has been a lot of fan speculation surrounding whether Ian Whyte, the man who replaced Kevin Peter Hall as the Predator, will be back for another round in Alien vs. Predator 2. And as such, I've been keeping my ear to the ground for any news on that front. Well, after talking to some people who are in the know, I've been told Whyte will in fact be back, dressed in the best Predator design since the original. Remember the story we broke a while back reporting on the Predator costume redesign? Seems like we were right on the mark.
I'm also assured that the Predator designs will not look anything like Anderson's 'short and fat' Predators from the original AVP. I can hear Predator fans breathing a collective sigh of relief.
Also, with Amalgamated Dynamics back, Tom Woodruff will once again be suiting up as the lead Alien, which I understand have also had their designs reworked. Tom has played this role since Fincher's problem-plagued Alien 3 in 1992, including as Grid in the first AVP film.
So, once again, Whyte and Woodruff will battle to the death. And if memory serves me, it's Whyte 1, Woodruff 0. Sounds like a score to settle to me. Either way, good news for fans of both franchises.

Ciejek clan are at each other's throats, enlisting the help of the fearsome Predators to settle the score...

How Many Minutes Can You Spare for Darfur? |
|
There are a million reasons why I'm posting this, and zero not to. The other day a friend of mine said something to the
effect of, "The world is broken. What you are going to do about it?" While the answer varies for every one of us,
if it's possible to use this site to raise even an ounce awareness, I'm all for it. If you've seen the film Hotel Rwanda, or
do a simple Google search for Darfur,
you'll bear witness to yet another of the globe's epic tragedies unfolding before us. Journalist Nick Clooney recently visited
Africa and wrote the
following news article we
think helps raise awareness.
Thanks everyone,
-Willie

News Round-Up |
|
For several different
reasons
it's been difficult for me to find time to update, so here's a quick rundown of what's trickled in lately:
You can preorder the Hot Toy Colonial Marine figures at
The Big Bad Toy Store
The Alien Experience is
reporting on a possible director team for AvP 2.
Alien Loves Predator continues to be the best thing since
chocolate, Josie Maran,
even cute little puppies!
Monsters in Motion
is selling some sort of Pulse Rifle conversion kit.
Amazon is selling Aliens/Predator: Panel To Panel for 35% off.
Two extraterrestrial species have haunted - and hunted - mankind throughout history: one a parasitic killing machine that uses
humans as unwilling hosts for its lethal offspring, the other a relentless stalker that uses otherworldly stealth technology and
weaponry to take men as grisly trophy kills. For over two decades, Dark Horse Comics has catalogued these terrifying contacts,
harnessing the talents of a virtual who's who list of comics, science-fiction and fantasy illustrators to bring these tales to
life. And now, one deluxe volume gathers all the best of these visual horrors into one arena. Aliens/Predator: Panel to Panel
showcases page after page of some of the most compelling artwork ever seen in graphic fiction, stunning visions by John Bolton,
Dave Dorman, Mark Schultz, Richard Corben, Mike Mignola, Doug Wheatley, Arthur Suydam, Mark A. Nelson, Alex Maleev,
Den Beauvais, Glenn Fabry, Jon Foster, David Michael Beck, Sam Keith, Doug Mahnke and many, many more.
Thanks to Marc Cawiezel and Hicks from the Alien Experience for the above!

AvP Horrorclix Game |
|
WizKids Inc. is pleased to announce the first licensed property to join the HorrorClix collectable miniatures game (CMG).
In conjunction with Twentieth Century Fox, two Alien vs. Predator Collector¹s Sets are to be released. The first set features
the acid-blooded Aliens, and the second set features the brutal space-faring hunters, the Predators. "The Alien vs. Predator
license adds two of the most fearsome creatures in science fiction to the HorrorClix game line,² said Jordan Weisman, WizKids
CEO. ³When we asked in a recent online poll who the fans wanted to see most, Alien vs. Predator won the vote hands down. We¹re
just thrilled to bring the terror and excitement of Alien vs. Predator to the HorrorClix gaming experience." "Our teams at
Twentieth Century Fox Licensing and Merchandising are thrilled to be working with WizKids on the ever-successful AVP franchise.
We share their enthusiasm for this property, which has become a mainstay within the science-fiction genre. WizKids¹ passion for
exceptional product execution will not disappoint their fans, and Fox is proud to be a part of the HorrorClix collection this
holiday and in 2007," said Michael Peikoff, vice president of Domestic Licensing at Twentieth Century Fox. The first
HorrorClix Collector¹s Set, Aliens, contains seven combat-ready creatures from the vision of H.R. Geiger and as seen in the 2004
feature film Alien vs. Predator. The Aliens Collector¹s Set debuts this December, and it is available first and at a discount
to ³Buy it by the Brick² customers who purchase HorrorClix at their local hobby-game retail stores. A ³ClixBrick² is 12
shrink-wrapped, four-figure Booster Packs. The Predator set will debut in early 2007. Each set will include a special map
detailing locations from the movie, including shifting walls in an ancient pyramid.
HorrorClix mechanics are based on the industry-leading HeroClix® CMG, and the game allows players to build armies of werewolves, zombies, killer clowns and more in a wicked-fun, gore-filled romp. Imaginative characters and sculpting, great game play and an original storyline make HorrorClix a unique entry into the hobby-game market. The premiere HorrorClix release hits hobby-game stores worldwide on August 30, 2006.
A special HorrorClix sneak peek is planned at the Origins International Game Expo in Columbus, OH, on June 29. The game will also be available at a presale in limited quantities at Gen Con in Indianapolis on August 10. For additional information, visit www.wizkidsgames.com.

ALIENS/PREDATOR PANEL TO PANEL Trade Paperback

Aliens Chess Set |
|
Over at Toy News International you can find news and pics of SOTA's all-new Aliens
Chess Set (this is NOT the AvP version).
Featuring chess pieces made of solid, nearly UNBREAKABLE pewter and a beautifully designed resin chess board,
the Aliens Deluxe Pewter Chess Set is one of the highest quality and most impressive chess sets ever manufactured.
Featuring the space marines versus the aliens, this chess set captures the mood and design of the original Alien
sequel, James Cameron's "Aliens."
The human side of the board features the design of the space station from the movie, while the sides of the
board represent the gradual infestation of the station by the aliens. Within the infestation are human victims,
either awaiting a face hugger or perhaps incubation an alien warrior.
Thanks to Tom Atkins & Matt Adams for the heads up!

New Predator Novel |
|
Just got word from Mano about a new Predator Novel to be released this winter, called "Predator: Forever Midnight":
The year is 2117,A.D. Humanity has seized the stars, using reverse-engineered alien technology to explore the far reaches of
space. For a hundred years the Predators, sadistic extraterrestrial hunters, have been a dim memory. For a hundred years, we've
been safe. That ends now. Cast in daylight for years at a time, the almost eternally lit jungle planet known as Midnight is the
home to more than a thousand colonists, explorers building a haven on a new world. But the settlers aren't alone. The Predators
have been on this planet all along. When the ravenous creatures attack an arriving spacecraft and capture the settlers as both
slaves and prey for their hunt, terraforming the planet takes a back seat to a new fight for survival.

Alien: Signature Alien Queen Statue One-of-a-Kind Sample
In 2005, after over two years of producing high quality Alien statues and busts, Palisades Toys unveiled its Alien
Signature Series of statues. The second statue in the Signature Series is a film-accurate representation of the dreaded
Queen Alien from the 1986 sequel, AliensŠand it has been so well received that it has quickly become a must-have among
Alien collectors all over the world. Standing a monstrous 18 inches tall even without the 2 inch tall display base, the
Alien Queen Statue features a stunning attention to detail, precisely replicating the monster in the film.
While the regular version of the Alien Queen Signature Statue is limited to 1500 pieces worldwide, this is a special

New Official Aliens Novel |
|
Sorry it took so long to post this. Want to know what happened to Ripley, Call, Johner and Vriess after the events of Alien
Resurrection? Well then check out Aliens: Original Sin
an all new Aliens novel set in the time period directly following Alien 4!
In 1979, science fiction and horror were brought together in director Ridley Scott's classic film Alien. The film follows
the crew of a space cargo-ship, the Nostromo, who land on a hostile planet in response to a faint SOS only to discover an
abandoned ship with a hideous alien. Alien inspired three movie sequels, and now Aliens: Original Sin expands further on this
classic story, bringing back classic characters like Ripley 8, the clone of Lt. Ellen Ripley, and Call, an android. It also
sorts out unanswered questions from the movies and raises entirely new ones. Was it just coincidence that the Nostromo
happened to pass by the desolate planet? Why was the alien on the crashed ship in the first place? The answers, along with
intense action, chilling horror, and even deeper questions await in suspense virtuoso Michael Jan Friedman's Alien: Original
Sin.

AvP Snap Kits |
|
The AvP Snap Kits from Japan are now available at
Action HQ! Here's a review by the site's very own
Mike Chu:
Alien VS Predator Snap Kits
by Action-HQ.com, Mike Chu, December 15, 2004
The Force has met its match with these recently released Alien VS Predator Snap Kits! These four inch figures are exceptionally detailed with over 15 points of articulation and more than comparable to the similar sized Star Wars figures.
Developed and created by Blister Direct Japan(?) (and also licensed and distributed by Hot Toys in Hong Kong and Mega Ridge in Taiwan), this collection of 8 to 10 figures are only available in Asia. The question to ask is why haven't other toy companies come up with this cool style of figures before?
To get things straight, unlike the name and pictures in magazines entail, these are not actual snap kits where you snap parts off a plastic tree. This is decidedly good though as you won't damage the parts or the paint in the process. The figures are in fact molded PVC plastic similar to the many trading and capsule figures out there but are separated into many attachable parts with ball joints. These are the only things you have to "snap" into place.
We chose to review Chopper Predator rather than the Alien figures, because the former has more detail and accessories. Components for every part of the body come separately in a plastic bag. After building the figure and examining in detail, you will surely agree that he is darn right awesome! The intricate sculpt and painting are done impressively well and even the face is true to the film character. It also comes with many attachable, highly-detailed accessories including armored mask, chain of skulls, blades, spear, knife and scabbard, round spike bladed weapon, back mounted laser, etc. They all fit nicely for a four inch figure though not as securely as a conventional action figure.
Chopper Predator poses quite nicely with his 15 points of articulation but is somewhat limited by the armor. It would also have been nice to have a peg base for one leg so it can stay upright easier. The only other thing that bothers us was the time and effort to put him together, which took close to 15 minutes. It was strenuous to push and twist the ball joints into place versus what we thought would be a "snap". (Engineered tight to better retain its pose?) Also make sure you put the arms and legs facing the right side or you will have to take him apart again. As the instructions says, familiarize yourself with the parts first!
Our first carton of 60 figures contained only three full sets of eight figures with one chase figure which is the Elder Predator. The rest are randomly allocated. We also heard that there is a chase Alien (Queen?) but we cannot confirm at this time. Either way, these will be hard to get in sets of eight. Price per figure is 980 yen + VAT. Each character is packaged randomly in a hidden box. Also comes with a key-chain attachment if desired. Characters include:
Battle Alien
Warrior Alien
Translucent Alien Warrior
Grid Alien
Chopper Predator
Scar Predator
Celtic Predator
Clear Predator
Elder Predator (Chase) -Comes with different head, body armor and read cloth cloak
Alien (Queen?) (To be confirmed - Chase)

New Alien and Predator Book |
|
Telos Publishing will soon be releasing a book entitled
Beautiful Monsters: The Unofficial and
Unauthorized Guide to the Alien and Predator Films.
The end of the 1970s was a turning point for science fiction and horror films. Star Wars, Close Encounters Of The
Third Kind and Halloween set the standard for many years to come. In 1979, a new film would blend these genres
together into an SF/horror film that would cross genres, and feature a villain that audiences and critics would
find far scarier than Michael Myers or Jason and Pamela Voorhees.
Beautiful Monsters is the story of the Alien and Predator film franchises. Each film is chronicled through
analysis and extensive background information, and the themes and influences examined through articles. In addition
all the spin-off books, comics and computer games are detailed.
This is your one-stop guide for everything relating to two of cinema¹s most popular and enduring creations who
finally met in the 2004 film Alien vs Predator.

Editorial: McFarlane Stealth Predator |
|
The first thing we'd like to say to McFarlane is: Thank you. Thank you for grabbing the Aliens license and delivering the
toys and figures fans have wanted for a long time. We've waited 18 years for a figure like the MM7 Corporal Hicks figure,
and yes, even with the arms (actually didn't bother us at all), he's our favorite action figure of all time. Your
dedciation to the property is top notch, and it's with great enthusiasm we scoop up every new item you put out - and will
continue to do so, well into the future.
The issue many seem to have is with the Collector's Club exclusive figures. First, kudos for even doing these in the
first place, the whole concept of a highly demanded extra figure is a great one, and we're sure it takes a to of effort,
energy and coordination to put these exclusives together. Lately though, we've received a handful of emails from folks
discsussing the recent Stealth Predator exclusive. Here's an excerpt from one of the emails:
I just wanted to express my dissapointment with the direction the so called "McFarlane Toys Collector's Club" has taken
since becomming an INTERNET EXCLUSIVE deal. Because McFarlane has chosen to LIMIT the production runs on these EXCLUSIVE
figures to around 10,000, it guarantees a near immediate SELL OUT of the figure - which means only 5000 people can place an
order for a quantity of 2. (The original Stealth Predator figure from Movie Maniacs 6 & the Stealth Celtic Predator from the
AVP line are 2 perfect examples.) This situation just makes it ripe for Toy Scalpers & dealers to place multiple orders under
multiple names & thus taking the figures out of the ligit collector's hands & forcing them to pay more for them on the
secondary market. This "Collector's Club" is turning into a "Scalper's Club" The old mail order flyers method seemed so much
more fair. I think McFarlane should seriously consider increasing the numbers on these exclusives. I've missed out on several
of them because of it. I was lucky enough to get both Predators for my collection, but had I not, I would be one seriously
bitter individual right now. I know we live in a free country & a free enterprise society, but please listen to the collectors
and their legit gripes.
Thanks,
A longtime McFarlane Toys Collector
Here at alienscollection.com, we feel like the good will and intentions of the Collector's Club has been clouded by
pocket-lining, toy-scalping profiteers - making it extremely difficult for collectors to obtain even just one of the
"exclusive" Club figures. Several solutions have been proposed, but so far, we don't know what steps will be taken
to help dedicated McFarlane fans get a fair crack at all the goodies the future holds.
Feel free to explore this topic further on the
Spawn Message boards here!

New from Master Replicas |
|
Master Replicas
will soon be uploading photos and ordering information for their upcoming AvP Hybrid statue to their website
here!
"In the movie Alien vs. Predator, the strange creature - born from the Alien seed planted within Scar during
an encounter with a Facehugger - emerges from ScarÕs lifeless torso in an explosion of luminous green Predator blood.
But this chestburster is different than the ones seen in previous Alien films. While residing in the host body,
this chestburster reveals the muted colorings of the Predator, a more muscled body, and an arrangement of four
crab-like mandibles along with its Alien traits. Yes, it truly is the Hybrid Chestburster, which combines the DNA
of both species.
The Hybrid Chestburster puppet was built with a translucent silicone skin and thin membranes wrapping around the
mandibles. On the set, 8 puppeteers manipulated the puppet, revealing the fully-formed creature in its various birth
stages. Its final emergence, in a ghastly spray of green blood, was accomplished with high-pressure tubes of
Predator blood.
The Master Replicas sculpture is cast of Polystone, a type of cold cast resin, using molds made from the artist's
sculpture. Each sculpture is finely crafted and hand painted based on the original sculpture by Alec Gillis and
Tom Woodruff, Jr. of Amalgamated Dynamics Inc."

Special Notice: Sara Thackray |
|
In conjunction with Fox and other Aliens & Predator websites, we'd like to print this special letter for everyone here:
"I would be so grateful if you could take the time to read this email along with the attachments.
On the 7th October The Odeon Cinema in Dunfermline will host the UK Premiere of AVP (Alien VS Predator). This
will be in aid of a young three year old girl called Sara Thackray (whom you may or may not have seen in the
national press). Sara needs urgent medical treatment in America to save her life and as Sara's parents have
already lost their first little girl to another tragedy; I along with many others aim to ensure Sara gets the
chance to live as long as humanly possible to give Mr & Mrs Thackray a chance to have precious time with this
brave little angel.
Twentieth Century Fox have donated the premiere and Odeon have donated the cinema, we have a number of celebrities
offering their support on the night and we aim to hold an auction before the film. There are three ways you can get
involved and they are described in the attached letter. I really thank you for your time and ask you to find it in
your hearts to read the accompanying letter. I have also attached a promotion leaflet and ticket for more information
only. If you need any further information on the charity or event please do not hesitate to contact me at anytime on
07944 690308 or email me at
colin.rawling@fox.com.
Firstly: Please do not feel obliged to get involved in any way.
Secondly: If you do get involved you will be thanked both on the night, in the media and in the premiere brochure.
Finally: Please give as much as you can to help this little girl.
For brochure enquiries please email David Brown at: david@theprintpeople.co.uk
Many thanks again,
Colin Rawling
Twentieth Century Fox
We've uploaded the event flyer and press release to download here and
here.
All regular daily updates will take place below this notice for the next few weeks.
Thanks everyone.
